Prevention & everyday care

5 min read

Regular preventive care greatly reduces the risk of an emergency. Here are the main pillars to set up with your vet, tailored to your pet's species and lifestyle.

Vaccination

The protocol depends on species, age and lifestyle (outdoor access, group settings, travel). Set the schedule of primary vaccinations and boosters with your vet.

Parasite control

Deworm regularly and protect against fleas and ticks. Caution: permethrin-based products meant for dogs are toxic to cats.

Depending on your region and travel, heartworm prevention may be recommended.

Nutrition & weight

Feed a suitable ration, monitor weight and avoid excess weight. Make dietary transitions gradually.

  • Dangerous foods: chocolate, onion and garlic, grapes and raisins, xylitol (sweetener).
  • For cats: lilies, and any human medication without veterinary advice.

Daily care

Brush the teeth, check claws, ears and coat, and watch appetite, thirst and behaviour every day: these are the earliest indicators of a problem.

Identification & check-ups

Microchip identification is mandatory and helps recover a lost animal. Plan an annual health check, twice a year for older animals.

This information is general and educational: it does not replace a veterinary consultation. If in doubt or in an emergency, contact your vet or an on-call service immediately.
